Electronics and communications engineering mainly deal with circuits, electronic devices, and communication appliances such as receivers, transmitters, integrated circuits, etc. It also deals with analog, electronics, digital transmission, data or video, voice reception (such as FM, AM, and DTH), satellite communications, microprocessors, antenna, microwave engineering, and wave progression.

 The main objective of electronics and communication engineering is to provide a deep understanding and upgrade learners’ skills in fundamental concepts and theories. These concepts will help students in their professional work involving systems implementation, analysis, operation, maintenance, and production of many applications in Electronics and Communications engineering.  

How to become an electronics and communications engineer

To become an electronics and communications engineer, you should get a degree and gain a good experience in the domain. This guide will provide various steps to becoming an electronics and communications engineer. 

1. Studying maths and physics is compulsory in your 10+2

Various engineering aspirants start preparing themselves at the higher secondary level. A good grip on essential mathematics and physics topics during a higher secondary level will strengthen your electronics and communications engineering foundation.  

2. Earn a bachelor’s degree

Generally, you are supposed to get at least 50% mark’s in your higher secondary level in science subjects such as physics and mathematics to be eligible for various engineering entrance exams. There are many engineering entrance exams at the state and national levels. Some of the entrance exams are as follows: 

• The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main

• Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)

• Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test (BITSAT)

• The Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE)

• Odisha Joint Entrance Examination

• West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE)

3. Build experience

For top job positions in ECE, practical working experience is essential. You can gain this experience with the help of various internships or shadowing professionals during your graduation time. It will enable you to increase your skill set and get a good placement as soon as you complete your degree. Moreover, on-the-job experience is a prerequisite to getting many certifications, such as the PE license (Professional Engineer). 

4. Acquire certifications or engineering license

To boost your career development, you should obtain a Professional Engineer License. To get this PE license, you are supposed to fulfill the eligibility criteria of a particular exam and then give an exam. 

To acquire related certifications, you must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering from a recognized college or university and a minimum working experience of at least five years. 

5. Enhance your resume

Every hiring manager will ask you for your resume. So, your resume should be fascinating. Moreover, you must keep upgrading your resume with your recent experiences and various newly developed skills that will impress your hiring manager. 

Additionally, it would be best if you went for various certifications and skills in great demand in the market and tried to boost yourself with such skills. Moreover, to enhance your chances of getting selected in a particular industry, try customizing your resume per the industry and job you plan to apply for.
